Teaching

“Ms Bixby’s Last Day”

It had been ages since I last read a novel. A story that I enjoyed, not for professional development. Though this book is recommended for 12 year olds, I think all adults who have had a good teacher to remember will love this book.

A schoolteacher who was diagnosed with cancer, 3 boys whose lives had been touched by her, her last day celebrated in the fondest way… I bawled my eyes out, struggling to finish the last pages through my blurry eyes.

Everyone knows there are different kinds of teachers. The good ones. The not-so-good ones. The boring ones, the mean ones, the ones who try too hard. The ones you’ll never remember, the ones you want to forget. But Ms Bixby is none of these. She’s the sort of teacher who makes you feel like the indignity of school is worthwhile. Who makes the idea of growing up less terrifying. Who you never want to disappoint. What Ms Bixby is, is one of a kind.
